Centenary events
A number of special events were organised to mark Loughborough University's Centenary year including lectures, an open day, Graduation Celebrations and an exhibition at the Charnwood Museum in the town.
Centenary Lecture Series
The Centenary Lecture Series was given by eminent thinkers of our times who reflected on the major issues of today, setting these in the context of the last century and speculating about the key challenges that face us in the future.

Planting Trees for a Sustainable Future - 11 December 2009
As part of the University's commitment to sustainability, 100 trees were planted both at the National Forest and on campus.
Centenary Receptions - 29 September and 8 December 2009
The University has shared its celebrations with the Borough and County Councils and with Loughborough College.

College Sunday - 25 October 2009
Loughborough University re-enacted 'College Sunday' on 25 October 2009. This was an event which ran from 1920 for over 40 years. A service was held at 10.30am at All Saints with Holy Trinity Parish Church preceded by a procession from the town centre.

Centenary Open Day Sunday - 14 June 2009
Thousands of people flocked to Loughborough University on 14 June 2009 for the Centenary Open Day - part of the celebrations to mark a hundred years since the establishment of Loughborough Technical Institute, the University's predecessor.

Museum Exhibition - 16 May to 5 July 2009
An exhibition of the history of the University was held in the Charnwood Museum from 16 May until 5 July 2009. This charted the development of the University and also included a display of our research into sports technology including our work on rugby and football shirts, trainers and football boots.

Centenary Graduation Celebrations - 18 July 2009
The University has chosen 2009, its centenary year, to honour past students of the consituent colleges with an honorary award to celebrate the contribution they have made to the development of Lougborough University.
The University is inviting former students who studied at the University's constituent Colleges, received a higher education qualification below the level of a Bachelor degree and who completed their studies in or before 1979 back to Loughborough to receive an Honorary Bachelor Degree Award.
