I completed my degree and PhD in the Chemistry Department of Loughborough University. I lectured in Physical Chemistry at Loughborough and my research area was photochemistry on surfaces. I used diffuse reflectance laser flash photolysis to study bimolecular energy and electron transfer on silica gel surfaces and heterogeneous environments. I also used photochemical techniques to compare catalysts for photo-remediation and for solar energy storage. In July 2011 I started as the School of Science Outreach Officer and Deputy Director of SEFS. OutreachI coordinate the outreach actvities for the School of Science (Chemistry, Computer Science, Information Science, Maths, Maths Education and Physics). Our outreach activities include running science clubs, masterclasses, revision classes, demonstration lectures, careers talks, UE days and workshops. Recent examples of our activities are an A level Organic Chemistry synthesis and analysis day, Maths revision days and a star gazing evening exploring the mysteries of the Universe.
