Research Interests

  • Adaptivity for Mainstream Accessibility
    • Few if any mainstream systems exist for making computer interfaces adapt to the various differing physical, sensory and cognitive capabilities of their users, or take into account environmental factors. My research is focussed on creating efficient techniques that developers may use to incorporate such adaptivity into future systems.
  • Ageing and ICT
    • One large application area of adaptivity is to support older ICT users' autonomy despite fluctuating capabilities. The Sus-IT project aims to address this.
  • Accessibile Gaming
    • I retain an active interest in the area of accessibile gaming - allowing people with recognised disabilities or those experiencing other forms of accessibility barriers to join in mainstream computer gaming, as well as an increasing number of other social and educational activities based on gaming technologies. The AGRIP project, which I co-founded, has made several contributions in this area.

Biography

I am currently both a research student and associate, working on the Sus-IT project and a related PhD topic concerning interface adaptations for improved accessibility to computer systems for people of varying physical and sensory capabilities. I have also co-developed the first to-market conversion of a mainstream action computer game for the sighted that is playable by blind gamers - AudioQuake.

During 2010, I delivered the lectures and tutorials as part of the 1st year module "Programming for the WWW."
