Funding from Re:source for a piece of desk
based research, June - October 2001, on the development of National Information
Policies in a range of developed countries, including USA, Canada, South
Africa, Germany, France and the European Commission. Led by Professor
Charles Oppenheim, the team includes Adrienne Muir and an external consultant,
Tom Riley. The research includes heavy use of online databases, Web search
engines and discussions by e mail with identified specialists. The purpose
is to indicate those areas of NIP where the UK lags behind best practice
in other countries. There is an emphasis in the research on the development
of Information Literacy skills amongst citizens, but all aspects of NIP
are considered.
