Title:Exploring Interagency Information Sharing
Background
I graduated from Loughborough in 2008 with a BSc in Computing and Management. After graduating I went to work at Lloyds TSB for a year and at a computer consulting company for a year. Before returning to carry out my PhD.
I am working with Leicestershire Constabulary to identify processes and technologies to improve their ability to share information with partners such as councils, probation, courts etc. Looking particularly at the areas of antisocial behaviour and safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
A common issue in public sector (and private sector!) organisations is the disparate databases and silo’s of information which form from years of unplanned systems development. Each department, team, process purchases its own system and there is no overarching plan from higher up ensuring systems are compatible and not duplicated. This leads to major problems when the data/information stored in these systems is required. It is bad enough when you consider this simply within one organisation but when you take into account the number of organisations the police need to interact with to carry out their work efficiently and effectively you are multiplying this problem almost exponentially.
I am working to identify the barriers these agencies face when attempting to share information and to identify best practice which can be used as a guideline for future interagency information sharing.
