L W Beckford Dr Beckford is a Director and Consultant at Telos Partners
Limited, Director of Integra Management Systems Limited, Director of
Teasel Performance Management Limited. He is also a Visiting Professor
at the School of Business Information, John Moores University. Professor Robert Hayes Professor Hayes is Emeritus Professor at University College Los Angeles’s Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. He is one of the world’s most distinguished Information Scientists and former Dean of the LIS School at UCLA with which we have connections going back at least 20 years. He is currently working with the Library and Information Statistics Unit (LISU) here at Loughborough on a project related to the value of libraries and information in national economies. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience on a range of LIS and pedagogic issues. Dr Renée Jefferson Dr Jefferson is an Associate Professor, School of Education, The Citadel Graduate College, Charleston, South Carolina, and Adjunct Professor, School of Library and Information Science, San José, CA. She is visiting the Department to work with Dr Derek Stephens on research methods. Professor Mitsuhiro Oda Professor Oda is a Professor in the College of Education, Department of Psychology and Human Studies at Aoyama Gakuin University, in Japan. He is visiting Loughborough University to collaborate with colleagues and to undertake research in international studies on the development of training programmes for library and information professionals.’ Professor Richard M S Wilson On 1 August 2007 Richard M S Wilson joined the department as Visiting Professor. He is Emeritus Professor of Business Administration & Financial Management at Loughborough, having sought early retirement in 2003 (but not to stop working), and has held chairs at several other universities. Since 1999 he has worked closely with Charles Oppenheim on projects relating to the valuation of information as an asset. He is currently engaged in researching the links between academic and professional education and training in an important information discipline - accounting, and has long-standing interests in financial literacy. Professor Wilson is (founding) editor of 'Accounting Education: an international journal' (the official education journal of the International Association for Accounting Education & Research, published quarterly by Taylor & Francis), and active internationally in a variety of academic and professional associations in this field. Dr Graham
Walton Dr Walton is the Service Development Manager in the Library here at Loughborough University. He has a distinguished record of research and professional achievement. He is currently working with the Health Informatics Research Group in the Department, and is co-investigator with Dr Janet Harrison on two current projects. We expect to see more collaborations of this kind in the future. Dr Walton is also the Editor of Health Information and Libraries Journal, a peer-reviewed journal which is the Department’s list of preferred outlets. Dr Jiangfang Wang Dr Wang works at the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing. She is visiting the department to work with Dr Jonathan Levitt on scientometrics; and research policy and research evaluation. Honorary Visiting Fellow Dr J Eric Davies Eric Davies background includes over 25 years in academic
library management as well as experience in public libraries and special
libraries. He has also been a From 1999 to 2007 he was Director of LISU, a national research and information centre concentrating on performance assessment of libraries and related cultural services, based at Loughborough. He also Chaired the University’s Committee on Student Discipline – a successor to the Proctor’s Committee. His two main research interests are: performance assessment
and strategic management of library and information services, and the
impact of ethical and legal issues on information management. He is
currently a member of the UK Government’s Advisory Panel on Public
Sector Information {APPSI}, Vice-Chair of the Library and Information
Research Group of CILIP, and a member of the Standing Committee of the
Statistics and Evaluation Section of the International Federation of
Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). He serves on the Editorial
Boards of Evidence Based Library and Information Practice {EBLIP} and
Library Management. He also serves as a Councillor on Radley Parish
Council in Oxfordshire. Mr Peter Jäger Peter Jäger is currently an IT Consultant with SAP AG, Center of Excellence (CoE) which is based in Germany. He has worked for the company in various capacities, since 2002. His research interests are Artificial Intelligence,
Natural language processing, Machine learning and Semantic Web. Visiting Research Fellows Dr Jonathan Levitt Dr Levitt is an ESRC post-doctoral research fellow mentored by Prof. Charles Oppenheim. From February to June 2009, prior to becoming a research fellow, he was a visiting research fellow in the department. For the past nine years he has been an Associate Lecturer in computer science at the Open University. Dr. Levitt obtained his Ph.D. in information science under the supervision of Prof. Mike Thelwall. He also has Masters degrees in mathematics, computer science and social research methodology. He continues to collaborate with Prof. Thelwall and is an active member of his Statistical Cybermetrics Research Group. Whilst an ESRC post-doctoral fellow, Dr Levitt aims to build on his doctoral research by applying the bibliometric methods developed in his doctoral research to investigate topics of current research interest in scholarly communication, with particular focus on Economics. This trans-disciplinary project, described in more detail in the project Web page, seeks to add to Dr. Levitt’s doctoral findings by investigating topics of current research interest, including collaboration, disciplinarity and research evaluation. The method employed is to analyze citation data obtained primarily from, the Web of Science database. Ms Elba Mauleon Ms Mauleon is currently undertaking a PhD in the Department of Information Science, University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. She will be working with Professor Charles Oppenheim, focusing on bibliometric analysis by gender and she hopes to develop a citation analysis by gender. Professor Joseph Uta Professor Uta is University Librarian at Mzuzu University, Malawi. He was given leave from his job at Mzuzu University to come to Loughborough and was also awarded a grant from the Association of Commonwealth Universities. He was supervised by Professor John Feather during his time in the Department, where he came to learn about i) advances in knowledge skills in curriculum design for library and information science education and training; ii) modern practices and trends in student evaluation and assessment and share experiences with academics at Loughborough; iii) improve skills in managing academic faculty and departments, including staff development and performance evaluation; iv) carry out extensive literature review and research for articles or books to be published and thereby contribute to knowledge to benefit Malawi professionals. Ms Wang Sufang Ms Sufang is currently studying towards a Doctor of
Philosophy degree in the Department of Information Management at Peking
University, Peoples Republic of China. She is visiting Loughborough
to undertake independent research on “The active roles of public
libraries in social inclusion: from the comparative perspective of library
services to the disadvantaged in China and the UK”. She is working
alongside Dr Mark Hepworth. Ms Junping Zhao Ms Zhao from the Journal of Tsinghua University in
the People’s Republic of China, is working in collaboration with
Professor Li Ruoxi, Emeritus Professor Jack Meadows and Dr Fytton Rowland
in a study of the scientific periodicals system of the People’s
Republic of China Dr Kamla Al-Busaidi Kamla Ali Al-Busaidi is an assistant professor of information systems at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman. She received her PhD in management information systems from Claremont Graduate University in California in 2005 and BSc in information systems from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman in 1997. Kamla’s research interests include knowledge management systems, decision support systems, learning management systems and the deployment of information and communication technologies in Arab countries. She has published in several conference proceedings, edited book chapters and journals. Her main objectives of her 9 months (starting November 1st , 2011) academic visit at Loughborough University is to enrich her research activities through a multidisciplinary research collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking with fellow faculty members. She is being hosted by the Knowledge Management Research Group. Dr Mansour Al-Shehri Dr Al-Shehri from the Department of Library and Information Science at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia. He was awarded a fellowship from the British Council in Riyadh. He worked in collaboration with Professor John Feather on the development of the information society in Saudi Arabia. The British Council in Saudi Arabia has developed a research collaboration programme, enabling Saudi specialists to work alongside their UK counterparts. Dr Al-Shehri came to the UK as part of a Post-doctoral Summer Research Programme. Supported by BAE Systems, the major British company with overall responsibility for the Al-Yamamah programme. Professor Tom Becker Professor Becker is Professor of Media Management and Media Services at the Institut of Information Science at Cologne University of Applied Science. He came to the Department to undertake collaborative research in knowledge management, with Dr Louise Cooke. Professor Vera Silvia Marão Beraquet Professor Beraquet is from the University of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil. She came to the Department to work with Mrs Janet Harrison, to develop various health information projects. Professor Ednea Maria Cochrane Professor Cochrane is Research Professor – SECTEC/UNIVIMA in Brazil. She has been involved in Knowledge Management/Operations research projects and consultancy sponsored by CNPq/BDR to promote innovation to local Enterprises. She is working in collaboration with Dr Gill Ragsdell on the UNIVIMA-CNPq-BDCR project. Dr Marta de la Mano Dr de la Mano is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Library and Information Science at the University of Salamanca, Spain. She came to the Department to undertake collaborative research with Dr Janet Harrison and Claire Creaser, Director and Senior Statistician in the Library and Information Statistics Unit. The research being, in library performance measurement and quality management. Mr Tony Hooper Tony Hooper is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Management at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. He is currently on sabbatical, visiting Australia, Canada and the UK. Tony's research direction is based on both the courses he teaches at undergraduate and graduate level, and on the global phenomenon of electronic business. He is concerned with the way that information systems and technologies are driving policy at international, national, and organisation level. This relates technology adoption to globalisation and cultural issues, government policy on the use of information technology for economic growth, the promotion of electronic commerce adoption in small and medium-sized industries, etc. Tony is also interested in cyber warfare and global security issues emerging from the rapid growth in information technology developments. Dr Val Hooper Val Hooper is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Information Management at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. Val is currently on sabbatical, visiting Australia, Canada and the UK. Val has been lecturing for over a decade in diverse areas including Information Systems Management; Electronic commerce; Brand Management; Economics (Micro and Macro); Strategic Management; Marketing Management; Research Methodology; Consumer and Buyer Behaviour; Marketing Communications; Marketing Information Systems; and Practice of Marketing. She has also practiced widely as a management and specialist consultant with clients from a range of industries including industrial engineering, agricultural engineering, a university consortium, a national health research council, the tobacco industry, the hair care industry, national bakeries, education, fruit exporting, information systems and electronic commerce, and data mining. In 2004, Val was awarded a Victoria University Teaching Excellence Award. Mr Alias Ibrahim Mr Ibrahim is a lecturer in publishing related subjects at the School of Arts, in the Universiti Sains Malaysia. He undertook the MA in Publishing programme here in the Department, during 1986-87. After graduation he was hired by Longman Malaysia and prior to commencing his current job, served many years in commercial publishing and even ventured into advertising. Whilst visiting Loughborough, he will be working alongside Professor John Feather on publishing education in the UK. Dr Ahmad Khudair Dr Khudair is an Assistant Professor in the Library and Information Science Department of King Saud University in Riyadh. He came to the Department to continue research collaboration with Professor Ron Summers, with respect to open source health technologies. Dr Khudair returned to the Dept. in June 2011 to conduct collaborative research with Dr Louise Cooke. Miss Li Zhang Miss Zhang is studying towards a PhD. in Library Science at Peking University. She is visiting Loughborough to pursue collaborative activities in the area of children’s reading and library services to children / young people with Dr Sally Maynard who researches in this field. Miss Zhang’s visit is an opportunity for Dr Maynard to identify links with academics in the Department of Information Management, Peking University. Dr Eva Ortoll Espinet Dr Ortoll Espinet is a Lecturer/Researcher in the Department of Information Sciences at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, in Spain. Dr Ortoll Espinet has come to Loughborough to develop research collaborations in areas such as scholarly communication and knowledge management, with colleagues in the Department of Information Science. Ms Sunniva Evjen Ms Evjen is studying towards a PhD at Oslo University College, Norway. She is visiting Loughborough to undertake data collection towards her doctorate, under the supervision of Dr Anne Goulding. Her area of research is a comparative analysis of public library policy perspectives Mrs Shirley Pimenta Mrs Pimenta is studying towards a PhD in Information Science at the University of Brasilia (UnB). She is visiting Loughborough to undertake further research towards her doctorate, under the supervision of Professor Amanda Spink. Mrs Rosemeire Tavares Mrs Tavares is Lecturer in Accountability at the Santa Terezinha Faculty, in Brazil. She is also studying towards a Ph.D at the University of Brasilia. She is visiting Loughborough to undertake further research towards her doctorate, under the supervision of Dr Mark Hepworth. Professor Mohammed Hanif Uddin Professor Mohammed Hanif Uddin, is from the Department of Information Science and Library Management, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Professor Uddin has been awarded a Commonwealth Fellowship to come to Loughborough to undertake research, this research will help him contribute towards the development of on going research work within the Faculty of Arts, Library and Information Science Education Dept., University of Dhaka. It is hoped that after Professor Uddin's visit here, future collaboration will be made with other universities throughout the world He will be working with Professor John Feather, whilst he is at Loughborough.
