International Workshop on Strongly Correlated Electrons in New Materials(SCENM02)
Department of Physics, Loughborough University, UK 14-17 December 2002
Studies of high-Tc oxides, organics, heavy fermions, mesoscopic and a number of new magnetic systems have led to remarkable progress in the theory of strongly-correlated electrons (SCE). The goal of the workshop is to bring together physicists working on various aspects of SCE. 5 Nov, 2002: Deadline for abstract submission 15 Nov, 2002: Notification of acceptance 1 Feb 2003: Receipt of manuscript by J Phys A (see below for instructions)
Conference LocationThe thriving market town of Loughborough is situated in the East Midlands in the centre of England. The Department of Physics is located in the Sir David Davies building at the western end of the campus of Loughborough University. Lectures will be held in room W0.04. Travel InformationLoughborough can be easily reached by road, rail or air. The Department of Physics can be reached in 10 min from Loughborough railway station by taxi, or in 18 min by bus 7 from the station forecourt. Rail There is a regular train service from London St. Pancras with a journey time of approximately 1h 30min; there are direct trains from Sheffield, Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester and Nottingham, from where other connections can be made. Plan your journey on the online rail timetables. Air The nearest airports are East Midlands and Birmingham International. The "no frills" airlines bmibaby and go serve a number of European destinations from East Midlands. The following are suggestions for getting to Loughborough:
For rail connections from the above or elsewhere, see the online rail timetables. Road Situated approximately 150 km north of London, the campus lies 2 km from junction 23 of the M1 motorway. If coming by car, you should use the western (Holywell) entrance, closest to Junction 23. If staying in Burleigh Court, follow the signs there; otherwise park in car park 7. Visa, passportIn most cases a valid passport is sufficient for entry into the UK. In case of doubt, please check with your local embassy or consulate for visa requirements.Banking facilitiesThere are banks on campus; banks with longer opening times and foreign exchange facilities are in town. Cash may be withdrawn at any time from automatic teller machines on campus and in town.AccommodationAccommodation during the workshop is available at Burleigh Court, which is 100 metres from the Department of Physics. Alternative accommodation is available elsewhere on campus or in hotels in town. For information contact Dr Binoy Sobnack.Workshop fees£150 (excluding accommodation), payable by cash or sterling cheque on arrival.Registration DeskThe registration and information desk will be open on Saturday December 14th 2002 from 16:00 to 20:00 in the foyer of the Department on the first floor. During the conference the desk will be open from 09:00 to 17:00.Audio-visual equipmentA PC projector for PowerPoint presentation will be available. On registration please specify your requirements.Submission of abstractsThe Abstract book is now available. Conference publicationThe proceedings for SCENM02 will be published in Journal of Physics A: Mathematical
and General (JPA). The guest editors for the special issue are Page limits: IOP Theory of Condensed Matter GroupThe annual one-day meeting of the Theory of Condensed Matter group of the Institute of Physics will take place at Loughborough University on Tuesday, 17 December.Social events
