Background

Dr Terry Dovey’s primary research focus is feeding problems in children. Although eating disorders are well publicised, knowledge and awareness around feeding disorders in young children is limited. This is despite the fact that feeding disorder is a recognised psychological/medical problem, which probably affects more families around the world than eating disorders. Terry’s career goal is to increase awareness, knowledge and to innovate to create new therapies to help the families and children that suffer from problems around eating. Interested parties can find out a lot more information on this topic in the book Feeding Problems in Children edited by Angela Southall & Clarissa Martin.

Dr Terry Dovey is a lecturer in Psychology in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Loughborough University. Prior to joining the LUCRED team in September 2008, Terry was a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Staffordshire University. His BBSRC-funded PhD was conducted at the University of Liverpool in the Kissileff Laboratory for the Study of Human Ingestive Behaviour, and focused on the biological, psychological and individual factors associated with stress-induced over-consumption. In addition to his research focus on children’s feeding disorders, he also writes in the areas of television advertising to children, psychopharmacology of appetite regulation and psychophysical measurements of eating behaviour. Interested parties can find introductory information in the book Eating Behaviour written by Dr Dovey.
