Entry requirements
We are looking for applicants with good academic records which would qualify them to teach Design and Technology, Physical Education or Science in secondary schools. Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching and the ability to relate well to young people in any capacity (but especially in a state secondary school context) are essential. The following personal qualities are also important: effective communication skills; awareness and sensitivity to others; a sense of responsibility; a balanced and positive outlook; and the ability to be: open-minded, enthusiastic, hard working, well organised and self-disciplined.
The formal admission requirements are that you:
- should hold, on entry, a degree awarded by a United Kingdom higher education institution, or equivalent qualification.
- should have obtained, on entry, a grade C or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics.
- are required to satisfy this University that you are physically and mentally ‘fit to teach' before embarking on the course.
- are required to undergo an enhanced Criminal Record Bureau check to verify your suitability for working with young people.
- are required to attend an interview if you are selected for consideration for a place on this course (for more information about the interview process and entry requirements, please see the details provided within the subject sections of this site).
The selection process will determine whether you: have the intellectual capabilities needed to meet the QTS standards; possess appropriate qualities, attitudes and values expected of a teacher; can read effectively and are able to communicate clearly and accurately in Standard English.
Careful consideration is given to every applicant. Loughborough University abides by its Equal Opportunities Policy. Ethnic minorities are currently under-represented in teaching and we particularly welcome applicants from such backgrounds.
