Financing your PGCE training
The following information applies to UK/EU students only. The figures quoted are for the 2012-13 academic year. International students including anyone with a visa should contact Sarah Kirkham for information and guidance about finance during training (s.kirkham@lboro.ac.uk).
Training Bursaries
From 2012-13, the following bursary payments will be available:
Physics, Chemistry, Physics with Maths
£20,000 (for trainees with a 1st degree)
£15,000 (for trainees with a 2.1 degree)
£12,000 (for trainees with a 2:2 degree)
Biology, Design and Technology, Physical Education
£9,000 (for trainees with a 1st degree)
£5,000 (for trainees with a 2:1 degree)
Institute of Physics scholarship
Physics trainees with a 2:1 or first are able to apply for an Institute of Physics scholarship. The scholarship is worth £20,000. To apply you will need to have EU citizenship; a degree in physics or a physics related subject; understanding of school-level physics and physics education.
Trainees who hold the scholarship will not also be eligible for the standard Department for Education (DfE) bursary.
Physics trainees who are not awarded the scholarship will continue in 2012/13 to be eligible for the standard £20,000 bursary for those with a first, and £15,000 bursary for those with a 2:1.

Tuition fees
All PGCE trainees will be charged £9000 tuition fees by the university (subject to approval by the Office of Fair Access). However, you will be entitled to borrow a tuition fee loan to offset this cost. You will not have to pay your fees upfront; you can request that your fees are added to your student loan.
Loughborough University PGCE bursaries
PGCE students permanently resident in the United Kingdom (this excludes the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands) who are from households with an annual income of £18,360 or less may also be eligible for a bursary of £384 from the University.
