Referrals & Consultation

Making Referrals

If you see a student or colleague who you feel may benefit from talking to a counsellor you can tell them about the counselling service and how to contact us.  Any further contact between them and the counselling service is confidential and we are unable to give any feedback to you.

If you are with someone who is very distressed and feels unable to call us themselves you can make the initial call on their behalf. When you are through to someone in the counselling service they are likely to ask to speak to the person directly if that is possible.

Consultation

If you are dealing with a situation in the course of your work in the university that you find challenging or are unsure how to proceed the counselling service may be able to talk that through with you and help you work out the best way to go forward with it.

This may include supporting a student or colleague who is going through a difficult time or you could be managing a team that has lost a colleague.
